A home on Overton Road in Mountain Brook |
The FBI recently conducted a raid at a home on Overton Road in Mountain Brook, AL, according to a report at WBRC. For those not familiar with the area, Mountain Brook essentially is Birmingham's version of Beverly Hills. It's not that famous people necessarily live there, but the place reeks of money -- big money, old money. Locals call it the "Tiny Kingdom," and suffice to say, it's not the kind of place you expect to see law enforcement conducting an operation. So what's going on? Information, at the moment, is scarce. But we have this from WBRC:
A home on Overton Road was raided by the FBI Wednesday, according to Mountain Brook Police. The raid was a result of an ongoing FBI investigation. Details about the investigation and the result of the raid have not been made available. According to Mountain Brook PD, there is no known threat to the public at this time.
According to a report at banbalch.com, the raid has been a hot topic of conversation in the Birmingham area:
The chattering class in the elite enclave of Mountain Brook is on fire after an FBI raid last week.
WBRC Fox 6 reported last Wednesday:
A home on Overton Road was raided by the FBI Wednesday, according to Mountain Brook Police. The raid was a result of an ongoing FBI investigation. Details about the investigation and the result of the raid have not been made available. According to Mountain Brook PD, there is no known threat to the public at this time.
Although our sources could not confirm what the raid was exactly about, the action appears to be for a white-collar crime in which no one appears to have been arrested (yet) and documents, electronic devices, and hard evidence probably were seized.
Our high-level sources could not confirm or deny if this raid was related in any way to the Matrix Meltdown or Crosswhite Scandal. The raid could be for a completely unrelated crime.
But the chattering class keeps on chattering!
Both banbalch.com and Legal Schnauzer have been reporting on a number of topics that have connections to Mountain Brook. But so far, we see no sign that the raid involved any of those stories.

This is some top notch reporting, Schnauzer. Both you and that BanBalch fella. I know who owns that house. They probably aren't going to be real happy when I tell them you're using a picture of their home and implying it was raided by the feds. Bravo, my man.
There is nothing in the post that implies, states, or even suggests that house was the site of an FBI raid. I would advise you to read things a little closer. The post says that Mountain Brook and Overton Road are nice areas, and that's a nice house that gives an idea of what the area looks like. That's the one and only purpose of using the photo, which was found in the public sphere -- on a realtor's Web site if I remember correctly. You seem to be trying to create a controversy where none exists. Bravo.
Sounds like @10:24 has too much time on his hands. I'd suggest he find a hobby.
Props to WBRC for breaking this story. Seems other MSM outlets are sleeping on it.
Schnazuer, don't you know crime stories are supposed to come from places like North Birmingham, Ensley, Wenonah, or East Lake? You're not supposed to even hint that crime actually can take place among the "Brookies."
Before @10:24 gets a case of the vapors, I might point out that the post says no arrests have been made, which likely means no charges have been filed, which likely means (at this point) this isn't even a crime story. The FBI is investigating something, which is what the FBI does; that's why they call it the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It can happen anywhere, whether the houses are nice or not. This raid might lead to criminal charges -- but then again, it might not.
I'm guessing an accountant put a decimal point in the wrong place.
I get where 10:24 is coming from. While the photo may only be representative of the area, this is barely different than the Enquirer stating "Friends actor caught in drug sting" and showing one of its well known stars, when in fact it was some guy that delivered a pizza in an episode that was arrested. Perhaps a picture of the Mountain Brook Club would be more appropriate rather than a private residence (even if not on Overton Rd).
What is the address of the raided location?
I don't know. The original WBRC story indicates those types of details have not been made public.
