Birmingham police officer calls Joe Biden and Democrats "enemies of the United States" and suggests they might have to be forcefully removed from power

Birmingham Police

An Alabama police officer has been placed on administrative duty after posting online that President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party are "enemies of the United States" and might have to be removed from power by force. Why would a Birmingham cop think the public cares about his opinions on such issues -- and why would he think his comments were appropriate in a majority black city with a lot of Democratic voters? We don't have answers to those questions, but we will let al.com explain how they arose:

A Birmingham police officer has been reassigned following a social media post in which he called President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party the “enemy of the United States of America.”

The officer has not been publicly identified, and department spokesman Sgt. Rod Mauldin said he is on administrative duty pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

According to CBS 42, the officer wrote: “Our nation is under siege by these socialist enemies and if we cannot soon vote them out, it will be time to fight. If we are forced to fight, much blood will be spilled on both sides. I pray we can remove them peacefully before it is too late.”

This guy's prayers involve removing Democrats from office? In a city plagued by gun violence, in a state plagued by political corruption, he can't think of anything else to pray about?

The Birmingham Police Department released the following statement:

“The Birmingham police department was recently made aware of an inflammatory social media post made by an officer on his personal Facebook page. The Birmingham Police Department’s command staff took immediate action according to BPD protocol to initiate an internal investigation. The officer has been assigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of an internal investigation. This opinionated post made by this officer is not reflective of the views of the Birmingham Police Department. BPD takes these instances seriously and our goal is to assure open accountability of each officer that serves the City of Birmingham.”

  1. Why do people post such stupid stuff online? How do their brains get separated from their fingers? You see stories like this a lot.

  2. Good that they do!
    It makes the Fascists identifiable.

  3. Did this guy think such a post would not be seen? He must work with a lot of black officers, so why write this? Dumb, dumb.

  4. @10:17 -- Good questions. My guess is that, while this guy clearly works with black officers, he lives his personal life in a white, conservative bubble. Everyone close to him probably thinks the way he does. Not sure he even considers what black co-workers might think.

  5. This guy's posting could be interpreted as a threat against the president, and that can be a serious matter.

  6. For what it's worth, I interpreted this as a threat against Biden, and I'm pretty sure that's a crime.

  7. From Wikipedia . . .

Threatening the president of the United States is a federal felony under United States Code Title 18, Section 871.[1][2][3][4] It consists of knowingly and willfully mailing or otherwise making "any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon the president of the United States". The law also covers presidential candidates and former presidents. The United States Secret Service investigates suspected violations of this law and monitors those who have a history of threatening the president. Threatening the president is considered a political offense.[5] Immigrants who commit this crime can be deported.[6]

The cop's language might have been general enough to avoid this statute, but it could be a close call.

  8. Why would this take much of an investigation? Either the guy wrote it or he didn't. The only defense I can think of would be if someone hacked his account and wrote it under his name. Short of that, I see no reason why he should hold his job for much longer.

  9. I'm not an expert on the Birmingham hierarchy, but I'm pretty sure a cop is a city employee, and his immediate boss is the chief of police, who is appointed by the mayor, who currently is Randall Woodfin . . .

  10. . . . and Randall Woodfin is a Democrat. So this cop seems to be suggesting that his ultimate boss needs to be removed by force, with blood spilled in the process. Maybe the cop should have looked at the city's organizational chart before publishing this post.

  11. Sorry to disappoint anyone, but if this was his personal Facebook page and he made no reference to the Birmingham Police Department, then he is going to be protected under the First Amendment. His post was no more a direct threat than what many politicians, including Democrats, have recently said. Come on, man! Quit attacking the First Amendment!

  12. On one has a first amendment right to threaten anybody. He sounds as if he was in Washington D.C on Jan.6th. Thus, he doesn't believe Biden is the legitimate President. It's the same ignorance regarding the 2nd amendment, which some say give them the right to pull a gun on people. People are not stupid, just caught up in the Dialectic.

  13. The recount is openly available to watch online. Much has been uncovered. They will be removed from office. I just hope and pray he's out and a new paper ballot, in person only with proper identification election is held soon.

Remember at the gas pump who stopped fracking and the pipeline with strokes of his pen ...

  14. The recount is a charade. In the Dialectic, the problem is created. So-called Republicans have mailed in ballots for over 50 yrs, never had a problem. In 2004, Karl Rove stated illegal immigrants were voting; which is a lie. Illegals go out of there way not to brake the law,bc braking the law will get them deported. Ordo de chaos!

  15. @10:17, what does it matter that he works with "a lot of black officer"? Not every black person thinks the same way and comments like that make you sound racist. Now if you want to point out that there is a democrats mayor and, as LS pointed out, there is a lot of gun violence and corruption in the city, now that might have a bearing in the article. The skin color of his workers doesn't matter. They are people and that's his opinion.

  16. He is right. Biden and the Democrats rigged the election and they are a very real threat to our country and of course our democracy. The rule of law must be restored.

  17. Biden was installed as president with a coup. We don't have a democracy anymore. He is due to be removed and the rule of law and our democracy restored. Everything Biden does as "president" is unlawful.

  18. John 8:44-47: The big continues. Was there a coup when LBJ replaced JFK? The President is selected before he's elected. Was it a coup the adultous one was elected?

  19. I see the Trump loving morons are on the scene here!
They can’t tell the difference between a president who won with a majority of the votes and crook who somehow “won” with a minority and help from his good buddy Putin!
