President Obama fears an assassination attempt if his administration tries to prosecute apparent crimes from the George W. Bush terms, according to a new book by a veteran Washington, D.C., lawyer and journalist.
In fact, the president's security plan has been significantly enhanced for 2013, reports Andrew Kreig in Presidential Puppetry: Obama, Romney, and Their Masters. Obama's dismal performance in the first presidential debate against Republican nominee Mitt Romney might have been driven in part, Kreig writes, by a report from military aides earlier that day of a plot against the president.
Released in paperback on July 26, Presidential Puppetry is the first book to encompass the Obama second term and one of the first to examine the 2012 elections.
Kreig's primary thesis is that elites from both political parties have failed everyday Americans on the economy, privacy, civil rights, national security, and a host of other fundamental issues that are supposed to under gird our democracy. Kreig reports that voting machines controlled by private entities put our election integrity at risk. And he shows that neither party has the fortitude to fix a justice system that has gone wildly off track, perhaps most famously in the political prosecution of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman.
Concerns about Obama's safety first made national news in fall 2011 when top advisor Christopher Edley Jr. said the transition team preparing the Obama administration in 2009 feared a "revolt" if they tried to prosecute Bush-era law breaking. Edley, dean of the University of California law school, did not state what form a revolt might take. But Kreig writes in Presidential Puppetry:
The context of his comments suggested their fear that senior defense and national security officials and their outside patrons might undertake violent reprisal in some fashion.
History tells us that any hint at assassination must be taken seriously, Kreig writes:
We cannot ignore the physical attacks on United States leaders in modern times as an additional factor in explaining Obama's behavior. Official inquiries after the attacks almost always determined that crazed assassins and would-be assassins acted entirely on their own to commit the crimes. Most of us are far too busy to research, much less dispute, these official findings.
What is the real-world impact of security concerns surrounding the president? One example came in the first presidential debate against Romney in fall 2012, when Obama performed as if he was on a powerful anesthetic. Writes Kreig:
Obama's debate performance was so beneath his abilities that former Senate counsel, [Joe] Biden aide, and retired judge Lillian McEwen suggested to me shortly after the debate that the president seemed like a man dazed from a sudden threat upon his life. Her observation was prescient. A reliable source with strong national intelligence and political ties later told me that on the day of the debate, Obama was informed by military aides of a plot against him and the country. Such a plot would be one of the darkest chapters in American history, rivaling Aaron Burr's empire building schemes of yore.
Kreig is scheduled to discuss Presidential Puppetry at events in Alabama on August 22.
I like Andrew Kreig's work. Look forward to reading his book. He's been on top of the Siegelman case for a long time.
ReplyDeleteThe idea at the heart of this post is sick, but I believe every word of it. Definitely believe it could happen.
ReplyDeleteIn further news about the Bush crime family . . .
ReplyDeleteHaving been informed of an attempt on his life, that implies they know who was making the attempt. What actions on the part of Obama prompted the attempt? And, if they know who's behind it, what's been done to prosecute them?
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to learn that something other than medication created Obama's response at that debate but the threat makes me feel sick at the same time.
ReplyDeleteLegal Schnauzer: Where is Andrew Kreig speaking on the 22nd of August in Birmingham? A book store? Library?
My understanding is that Andrew is scheduled to speak at an event in Huntsville on that evening, hosted by Pam Miles. I believe he might schedule a Birmingham event on that date, but it's uncertain. Also, hopeful he will appear at Alabama bookstores eventually, but that probably will come later. Will keep you posted.
ReplyDeleteI think Prof. Judy asks some profound questions. Like her, I would like to know the answers. Surely someone in authority investigated this.
ReplyDeleteWe had such high hopes for the Obama administration, but sadly these hopes have been dashed by inaction...no, neglect. Those innocent victims of the Bush political prosecutions, and they are indeed many, should have been pardoned long ago by Mr. Obama. The administration should have gone after those who initiated these political "hits", including the prosecutors and officials who directed these slanders on American liberty.
ReplyDeleteKarl Rove should be in jail not earning millions spreading his poison. Sad, sad, sad. Shame on you Mr. Obama......
Like @11:55, I'm relieved to know that something external might have caused Obama's horrific performance in the first debate. He looked a character from "Night of the Zombies."
ReplyDeleteFascinating post, LS, and I definitely am going to check out Mr. Kreig's book. I hope he makes multiple trips to Alabama because I assume the book includes quite a bit of information about the Siegelman case.
ReplyDeleteYes, @12:35, the book includes a lot of information on Siegelman, Jill Simpson, and other key figures in the case.
ReplyDeleteHere is something I don't understand: It's sad to say this, but I assume the White House hears about threats on the president fairly regularly, whether it's Obama in the Oval Office or someone else. If this threat was enough to visibly shake the president in the debate, it must have been something way outside the norm. What could it have been? Where did it come from?
ReplyDeleteKennedy brothers, John and Robert were both murdered, I mean assassinated and the real reason was they demanded AIPAC and AZC register as foreign.
ReplyDeleteRumor is Bush "W" was also in a plot of cold blooded murder when he was in Florida, before he read Pet Goat book to children in the next AM. Foiled, but 9-1-1, went on as scheduled.
Rumor is Top Generals including Colin Powell AND Jimmy Carter former POTUS, at Alaska departure military secret base flew to Russia and asked that VPutin help USA because BLACKMAIL is in charge and killing all that moves.
AIPAC, AZC, MOSSAD, CIA, FBI, NSA, and name an insane controlling 'military' dictatorship not pulling the strings of many a 'President' TARGET, lest the puppet do exactly as the zombies are programmed to.
USA is a vassal state of Israel and Veterans Today give the real stories about how the shadow secret death squad is everywhere.
GREAT REPORTING LS, bless the SPIRIT of MURPHY always that dog's nose in the best sniff job.
I'm betting word of the plot intentionally was leaked to coincide with the debate. That means it had political motivations, and it worked--Obama was awful that night. Sounds positively Rovian to me.
ReplyDeleteI have forgotten how locate it, but there is video of a newsman for ABC News where he standing in front of the hotel before George W. Bush and hi s entourage departed for the school the read about the Pet Goat. He reported that Bush told the reporters that the World Trade Tower had been hit. The time on the video was b before the actual hit. How could Bush know this.

ReplyDeleteit is hard to know what actually goes/went on. However, the points raised in your article, could/might explain the lack of action the Obama administration has taken on a number of fronts.
When Mr. Obama was elected, some of us discussed attempts on his life, give the state of affairs in the U.S.A. It was very pleasantly surprising that no attempts had been made on his life. It might be reasonable to conclude an attempt on his life had been a discussion between Mr./Ms. Obama prior to his running for President.
President Obama does not strike me as a man afraid of being assisignated. However, he does have children, and the thought of their loss, is enough to prevent many from doing what needs to be politically done, if assasinations threats are the reason for actions/inactions.
As to Putin, my impression is he does not care for President Obama on either a professional or personal level. In my opinion, Putin, is a thug in a politicans cloths or visa versa. it is to be hoped many will attend the Os in Russia and remember to take along their "rainbow" colours.
Thanks for the comments and interest. Kindly let me respond to a couple points and offer five free books to those who'd like to research further. Regarding Prof. Judy's question, the fear by the president-elect's transition team was of a "revolt" by unspecified authorities without a specific threat. The gist is that top executives are more vulnerable than widely perceived to a variety of threats and not simply the crazed lone gunman most often feared. The greatest fear involved the potential reaction by security forces if prosecutions were undertaken regarding torture. I'd like to make this research easier to access for those most interested. The first two readers here to write can obtain a free print copy of the book. The next three may obtain an electronic copy for free. Kindly write me at info@EagleViewDC.com for the contest, or with any additional questions. I'd appreciate any other speaker gatherings that I can coordinate around what I hope will be a visit to Madison the evening of Aug. 22. -- Andrew
ReplyDeleteAndrew Kreig better have some body guards with him. He's entering dangerous territory where criminals pull the strings. In my opinion, Dick Cheney and Karl Rove would think nothing of knocking off their enemies or completely disabling and silencing them like what happened to Seigelman, Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame. I still think Cheney was responsible for Benazir Bhutto's assasination. No democracy for Pakistan. Only a president who can be controlled is acceptable.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the most serious crimes which past administrations are afraid of exposing, more than torture, I think is the continued control that Republican past CIA, FBI, NSA, and Homeland Security Agency administrators still hold over those agencies. Our government appears to be controlled by cronyism, bribery, and blackmail. The obsessive collection of personal information on citizens enables those in control to manipulate almost everyone. There seems to be no end to it until the belly of the beast is exposed for all to see and deal with.
ReplyDeleteCJONSSON, "cronyism, bribery, and blackmail" truly on point and then the global pedophile cult is the darkest human filth in charge of the money and what human can actually 'live in earth' absent the trade and exchange of 'money'. Sure there are so many dirt poor and eat mud for the only food available. This is sick when the 'money' is only a digit of a unit or units of digits.
ReplyDeleteAndrew, I enjoyed reading AT your book, posted you at the blog where I am not at all politically correct.
Thanks for what you have had the courage to create. What great company, Legal Murphy Schnauzer and Andrew Kreig. Teaching the uninformed that it isn't working, 'Government', and 'Government' is fostering the not working intentionally. Why in the world is this happening?
MUST GET INVOLVED AND SAVE THE COUNTRY !

thanks so much
PP et al
hate to even intimate such an awful thing, but any plausible threat could have been dissipated simply by promising retaliation toward a conservative SC member. That would put an end to any such threat because there is nothing they could fear more than losing their majority there.
ReplyDeleteSadly, Anonymous, there are those that find threats of murder or violence against others to be immoral. I cannot see President Obama or anyone on his team being willing to get into an escalating war of threats over threats. Reason defies such a possibility. I have long thought that the only recompense this nation can get from the shame and criminality of the Bush Machine will have to come from the international community. The result of any internal effort would be civil war here.
