Those statements conflict with information we received from Pelham Police Cpt. Larry Palmer, who said family members had no idea what caused the death and they told investigators Chace Swatek had no known health issues.
What accounts for the discrepancies? We aren't sure, but it seems someone is confused, misinformed, or intentionally providing misleading information.
Consider a couple of statements from our interviews with Cpt. Palmer:
LP: We talked to the family . . . and he didn't have any medical problems that we learned. . . . But we've had cases before where people had heart attacks at young ages and didn't know they had a heart problem until it was too late.
LS: So I guess [the family doesn't] know either then . . .
LP: No, no . . . until we start getting all those [toxicology reports] back, and the coroner and medical examiner have a chance to go through their end of it, the cause of death is still undetermined.
In an upcoming post, we will take a closer look at our conversation with Lana Swatek--and the differences between her statements and Cpt. Palmer's statements will be quite clear. For now, let's take a look at a video that is based on my interviews with Cpt. Palmer:
