And yes, I think it's possible that Gespass started with good intentions. You can tell from the Collins interview that Gespass is not stupid, and he has a decent grasp of the law. But there clearly was a reason he told the Collins audience one thing and told Carol and me something else. And it certainly is curious that it came after he interacted, in some form, with Riley's lawyer, who I assume was Jay Murrill. Several lawyers from the Riley Jackson firm had their names on different documents, but Murrill seemed to be taking the lead role.

From the standpoint of humanity and simple decency, you wonder how Gespass could play such games with someone he admits is unlawfully incarcerated. I probably stayed in jail an extra 4 1/2 months or more because Gespass failed to act.

If the Alabama State Bar had legit disciplinary procedures, and lawyers like Gespass took them seriously, Rob Riley, Jay Murrill, and probably several other attorneys would have lost their bar cards by now.

I will say this: My first meeting with Gespass went OK. It was the letter and the second meeting--which both came after his interactions with Team Riley--that I found deeply disturbing. And I remain convinced that Gespass was compromised in some way. I'm also convinced that he knows about the scam that caused me to be arrested, he knows multiple lawyers were involved, and he has a duty to report that to "the proper tribunal," under bar rules. But he apparently has done nothing.legalschnauzerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09619089628125964154noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3669412675139526125.post-10777709512228163472015-08-17T10:36:15.351-05:002015-08-17T10:36:15.351-05:00This quote sounds fishy to me, not so much because...This quote sounds fishy to me, not so much because of Gespass but because of Riley:

"I can’t even go online to get the documents. I understand they are pretty voluminous. I’ve been in touch with Riley’s lawyer, and he’s going to send them, but he said there is more than he can send by e-mail. Why the case is sealed is beyond me."

How could the file be "pretty voluminous" at that point? The case had just begun, and you hadn't filed anything had you? Riley's lawyer couldn't send the stuff via e-mail? That tells me Riley's lawyer gave this as an excuse so he either could meet with Gespass or personally deliver the items and then meet with Gespass.

Is it possible Gespass started with good intentions, but things changed after his interactions with Riley's lawyer?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3669412675139526125.post-20952558877868852202015-08-17T10:24:04.230-05:002015-08-17T10:24:04.230-05:00I will try not to hold back henceforth, @9:56. Hah...I will try not to hold back henceforth, @9:56. Hah!

Seriously, here is the neat thing about his: You don't have to take my word for it that Gespass was involved in some sort of attempted scam. Just look at his words from the Peter B. Collins interview (or you can listen to them at the link) and then read his words in the letter to Carol and me two days later.

Gespass mentions several legal options for me in the Collins interview: (1) File a motion to set aside the TRO and prelim injunction as unconstitutional--and get immediate release based on that; (2) File an extraordinary writ with the Alabama Supreme Court; (3) File an action in federal court; (4) Ask the trial-court judge to reconsider orders that are "so clearly contrary to principles of free speech."

Does Gespass mention any of those options in his letter to Carol and me, which was written two days after the Collins interview and after Gespass had somehow reviewed the sealed file via Rob Riley's law office? Nope, he doesn't mention a one of them.legalschnauzerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09619089628125964154noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3669412675139526125.post-28960810844125890442015-08-17T09:56:39.049-05:002015-08-17T09:56:39.049-05:00Gee, Schnauzer, tell us how you really feel about ...Gee, Schnauzer, tell us how you really feel about Gespass.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3669412675139526125.post-82415306589693300032015-08-17T09:38:50.610-05:002015-08-17T09:38:50.610-05:00Someone familiar with his work told me Gespass'...Someone familiar with his work told me Gespass' main talent is "being David Gespass."

In other words, Gespass is a carnival show, with a certain entertainment value. Not sure what his clients think of him.
