The story ...Looks like an interesting story, @7:48. The story appears to be behind a paywall, so I especially appreciate your second comment, which allows folks to get some details. Looks like records trace the money to Matrix LLC, a consulting outfit that has long-time ties to Alabama Power. If you are able to cut and paste more details into a comment, that would be much appreciated. I, for one, definitely would like to know more, and this should be of interest to many readers in Alabama. Thanks for making an important contribution to the blog.legalschnauzerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09619089628125964154noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3669412675139526125.post-87987907506389394662021-08-05T19:50:17.288-05:002021-08-05T19:50:17.288-05:00https://www.orlandosentinel.com/politics/os-prem-n...https://www.orlandosentinel.com/politics/os-prem-ne-senate-ghost-candidates-alabama-consultants-20210805-drvbnrih6vfotgidwcw6bg5s4q-story.html

At issue is $550,000 donated last year by a dark-money nonprofit to a pair of political committees that promoted little-known independent candidates in three key Senate races: Senate District 9 in Central Florida and Senate Districts 37 and 39 in South Florida. The money paid for nearly identical mailers apparently tailored to persuade Democratic-leaning voters to support the independent candidates in each of the three races, all of which were ultimately won by Republicans.

Authorities in Miami-Dade County have since charged two people in connection with one of those races, including former Republican state Sen. Frank Artiles, who is accused of bribing one of the independent candidates to run. Prosecutors say it was part of a plot to siphon support away from the Democratic candidate in District 37 and tilt the election to the Republican, Sen. Ileana Garcia of Miami.

During the election, the two political committees filed campaign finance reports showing they got all of their money from the same donor. They initially identified that donor as Proclivity Inc., a nonprofit set up in Delaware and based out of a UPS store in Atlanta. But they later changed their reports to say the donor was Grow United Inc., a nonprofit set up in Delaware but based out of a UPS store in Denver.

But investigators in the Artiles case have obtained records that suggest the nonprofits had ties to consultants working at the time for Matrix LLC, an Alabama-based communication and political consulting firm.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3669412675139526125.post-30267534858552696652021-08-05T19:48:11.449-05:002021-08-05T19:48:11.449-05:00https://flcga.org/3416-2/

Whatever term you want to affix to that, I certainly would not call it progressive. Most alarming is that I see no sign that Archibald has made any real effort to understand the facts or law involved in legal cases. That's why I referred to him as a bomb thrower. I'm not sure what Larry Langford and Frank Matthews have to do with anything connected to this post.legalschnauzerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09619089628125964154noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3669412675139526125.post-35020554689853552952011-04-07T20:35:31.818-05:002011-04-07T20:35:31.818-05:00You can't seriously consider Archibald a "...You can't seriously consider Archibald a "conservative." That's absurd. He and Whitmire routinely poke at the corporate establishment as well point out absurdity and corruption in the political realm. Archibald loves the sound of his own voice and gets endlessly on my nerves, but I think his "oversight" is pretty harmless. He was wrong to make fun of people in bankruptcy and wrong to deny his own. He's a gasbag - but so what? Everybody who reads his op/eds knows that.

Why does this matter? Because he looks dumb? He does that on purpose everytime he publishes.

This is not the kind of thing to fire somebody over, standing by itself.
