University of Maine Student Describes Life At The Grove Housing Complex As "Uncontrolled Chaos"

The Grove at Orono, Maine

Campus Crest Communities in September opened one of its newest locations of The Grove, at the University of Maine. Less than three months after its opening, the student-housing complex is being described in unflattering terms.

In an op-ed piece for The Maine Campus newspaper, UM student Dodge Tucker used words such as "mayhem," "chaos," and "debauchery" to describe his experience as a resident at The Grove.

We have shown in a series of posts that Campus Crest CEO Ted Rollins has a history of abusive actions  in several arenas, including the legal, personal, and corporate. Quite a bit of the ugliness is centered here in Alabama, where Campus Crest has four locations of The Grove. On the personal and legal front, Rollins played a central role in an Alabama divorce case we've called the worst courtroom cheat job in our experience. For good measure, Rollins even has been convicted or implicated in at least two cases of child abuse in North Carolina.

The nastiness seems to have infected the environment at The Grove complexes. Homicides, shootings, and car jackings seem to be among the "fully loaded" activities that Campus Crest touts in its advertising. And let's not forget a balcony collapse that severely injured three young people in Denton, Texas.

Such incidents has been limited mostly to Campus Crest facilities in the South. But now they are creeping into New England, and Dodge Tucker reports that "fully loaded" living at The Grove in Orono, Maine, is more than he bargained for. From Tucker's op-ed piece:

Imagine walking out of your apartment to see someone lying on the ground, bleeding profusely, his eyes rolling back in his head with people surrounding him, frantically calling 911. That was the scene I witnessed Friday night at The Grove, and that was only a part of what went down.
When you look outside and see a fire truck, ambulance, three police cruisers and security vehicles, you know something is up, and whatever it is, it’s probably not good. I threw on some shoes and decided to take a closer look. After passing the kid who was being tended to by EMTs at this point, I continued to see why all the police officers were there. Out of nowhere, two kids sprinted by me as if their lives depended on it and in not-so-hot pursuit were at least three cops who appeared very winded. This was absolute mayhem.
I continued on when all of a sudden a door whipped open and a fight spilled out onto the sidewalk. By now more cops had arrived and quickly responded to the fight by breaking it up and trying to cool things down.

Sounds like fun, doesn't it? And that's not all. Here's more from Tucker:

I eventually headed back inside, as it was getting late and I figured all of the action was over — but no. Hearing yelling, I looked outside my bedroom window to a huge mob of cops sprinting after someone in-between buildings.
Uncontrolled chaos was The Grove in a nutshell this past weekend. Security has been becoming more lax and the gates haven’t been used in what seems like over a month, allowing anyone and everyone who wants to come in and out the complete freedom to do so.
Ever since that first move-in weekend, security has had less and less of a presence in The Grove. I am not saying that I support being questioned everywhere I go, but for the overall safety and peace of mind of everyone living here, some sort of order needs to be maintained.

Are Dodge Tucker and other UMaine students waiting on Ted Rollins to take actions that will bring a sense of stability and well-being to The Grove in Orono? If so, our research indicates they are in for quite a wait.

The Maine Campus just gained a new reader.

Maybe Dodge Tucker should call Paula Poskon and do an interview with her. Maybe she could explain her comments that Ted Rollins' ties to child abuse are of no concern to Wall Street investors.

I thought college housing was supposed to be about debauchery.

Speaking of Maine, a friend of mine is from their and Monday her father had a heart attack. When emt showed up at his home after he called 911, they asked if he had any weapons in his house. He was in pain and thought is odd yet replied yes. Once he arrived at the hospital they did not attend to his heart right away and kept asking him about the weapons in his home. He became upset with them as he was having a heart attack and no one was helping him yet were more concerned with weapons on his home! They then put him under psych evaluation!!!!!!!!! I'm waiting to hear from my friend as she left to go see him and I haven't heard back from her. This is crazy!

Wonder if students at U of Maine know Ted Rollins cheated his ex wife and two daughters by lying on CS-41 form in Alabama. Wonder if they know he was convicted for assaulting his stepson. Wonder if they know he was investigated for child sexual abuse. Wonder if they care.

Sounds like Dodge Tucker cares. Good for him. College students should be sickened at what Ted Rollins has done to young people.

I live near Asheville, NC, and am quite familiar with Mr. Rollins' history. Been following the LS blog for several months. First time commenter.

Students in Maine are getting an education in "The Rollins Way." It's not pretty. Ask people in the know at UNC-Asheville about him.

Is Mr. Tucker against mayhem in student housing? Heck, what's the point of college without that?

Note to Legal Schnauzer:

Can you send the article by Mr. Tucker , the student at Orono Maine Grove to Ms. Paula Poskon?

I wonder if she would be interested in knowing about one of her "companies" in her portfolio.

Also maybe you should mention that the Ashville N.C. Grove has been aptly name the Rehab apartments since so many drug offenders are living there now...just google Ashville Grove and read.... especially comments by students who lived there..

The "Rehab Apartments"? That's a good one. And yes, Ms. Poskon does need to know what's going at U of Maine.

The parents of these students need to contact their Representatives in Congress.

Maybe they can retrieve a fair & equitable amount of money invested in their childrens education because they sure didn't pay for this...

Love the name Dodge Tucker. He needs to go places with that.

DON'T POST THIS!
I just figured out where the scum sucking pos Rollins got the name The Grove....... The Bohemian Grove.

It's a secret meeting place in the Red Wood Forest where world leaders meet once a year to discuss the fate of us common folk. I've been hearing about this for 20 yrs. google it and check it out. Rollins is some sort of psychopathic wannabe! It's only logical. Maybe they will someday invite him their as the guest to his own crucifixion. Joke sort of. Do you know where he went to college? Could you maybe put that info up?

A reader asked me for information about Ted Rollins' college education. He did his undergraduate work at The Citadel, a military school in Charleston, SC. He earned a master's in business administration at Duke University.

Thanks! That means Rollins isn't in the "in crowd" of the elite! He has to sacrifice big to attain his untouchable status! We can use our imaginations as to what I mean!

What I did just see is that I was correct in suggesting earlier today that Rollins was possibly on the preferred developer list and he is HIGH on that list! He received the 2012 Green Company Executive award! Given by Emerald Asset Management. They are an NGO connected with Agenda 21, ICLEI et cetera. They are involved in the master plan of the NEW WORLD ORDER! Rollins is definitely a cocksucker!!!!!!!!!!! What's so sick is he fits the prerequisite which is sellout you own mother, pedofile!!!! Thus why Paula Poskon Baird changed her tune. She's in the same club although with different body parts. Think she married in.

As I said before, he's not educated in so won't have a protective base if you just keep digging! Seigleman DID have that base from the all might DKE house at UofA and they all bailed on him! Rollins doesn't come CLOSE to that! Probably a big reason your blog hasn't been shut down! You ROCK LS! Don't post please thanks

Also, wouldn't it be interesting to find out that since he's a grad of Dukey ( where they went to counciling) that he contributes to them financially? They are private right!

Anonymous said...

If you want to find out, I wouldn't suggest posting that last comment about financial contributions

They'll cover it

Are you seeing my point here?

Interesting that Rollins graduated from The Citadel. I didn't know much about The Citadel till I was invited to be a guest of a fellow being honored along with Pat Conroy and Boo at a military dress parade. I did a search to verify the year which was 2000. I well remember the day with Conroy wearing the ball cap pictured here standing with Boo. We were given a cadet to show us around and educate us on everything Citadel. Lot of interesting facts I learned about the place and also witnessed Pat Conroy giving a fellow classmate a compliment. I happened to be standing next to a family out on the field after the parade. The alum was standing with his wife and two teenage sons. The father/husband from what I overheard was mentioning having known Conroy. His wife and particularly his two sons appeared nonplussed. Then Pat Conroy walks up and tells the two teenage boys about their father. Don't recall the exact compliment but it was an over the top one. Something along the lines of their dad was far and away the most brilliant in their class... along with examples. Fun to witness that. I looked around.. no one heard the compliment but the family and me but I doubt the family has forgotten that day.

Left off the link which was the main reason for posting. In searching for the year I visited the Citadel I came across this. Very interesting. Deals somewhat with gender bending at The Citadel. http://www.hendrix.edu/uploadedFiles/Admission/naked_citadel.pdf
I came away from the visit wondering how in the world you could convince teenage boys they should go to a pretend military academy which required getting up daily at the crack of dawn exercising. I knew three boys there at the time and compared to the life their friends were having at different colleges sure seemed like a hard sell to me. Only explanation I could come up with is people would know that you chose this strict regimen instead of say frat life partying lifestyle of their friends. And even though it isn't a real military academy I'm sure the cadets gain possibly discipline and leadership skills.Of the three that went from our high school I think one dropped out and the other two are doing well. One went to Oxford for post grad. Interesting to know Rollins chose and graduated from that regimen.

I wonder if Rollins chose it, or it was chosen for him.

After reading The New Yorker piece on The Citadel Ted Rollins behavior maybe shouldn't come as a surprise.
